Thing 17

I've explored the discovery resources and it does seem simple enough for anyone to use. For a few of my favorites of couse my favorite down time thing to do is read. I enjoy anything that will make me laugh, or just hold my interest. I've just started to read some biographies and found that I've enjoyed them. Some of my favorite authors are Linda Lael Miller, Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts and her mystery books under J.D. Robb. I just read a biography called Loss of Innocence written by a daughter and father. The story is of the daughter's addiction to Meth and the family's fight for her recovery.

Thing 16

After exploring the different resources I did not realize that there were so many different wikis. I only knew of Wikipedia (I've only used it once or twice but found the information pretty much true) so it interesting to see different uses for it. The only thing that I could see a concern for if someone posted something on a subject that maybe really only an opinion and not nearly as true as it should be. That could end up not being useful for another person if they are using that Wiki as a research tool. What I did find interesting for me was the Book Lovers Wiki. After reading the information I think its neat that they encourage people place give book reviews, rate the books and they could be entered into drawings to win prizes. I think this is a wonderful insentive to get people to read and share their thoughts.

Thing 15

I believe in some ways we are preparing for the future and the fact that our customers are more computer savy. We are given the oppurtunity to enhance our skills all the time and we as a system have implimented many programs for customers to have the many things to library has to offer while at home or in the office. One example is we know offer customers temporary library cards online so that the most the library website is accesible. This allows customers to get what they may need when they don't have immediate access to our library during opening hours or if we are closed and they need information immediatly. I like to think that we are doing our best to keep up with the furture.

Thing 14

OK, my brain is still on vacation (its taking me longer then usual to get back into the swing of things) even if I have returned to work. I am still navigating through the "Discover Technorati" thing but what I have found in placing "learning 2.0" in the search field is that many libraries are participating in the '23 Things'. You will find many blogs refering to 'thing 4' or 'week 5'. Its interesting how popular this has become. Though it does not suprise me after doing the discovery exercise #2 what are the favorite searches or popular blogs.

Thing 13

I've checkout Del.icio.us and find that it would be very useful to the library, especially the librarians on the Info Desk. The could bookmark sites that are popular and used frequently when assisting customer. This could make the encounter with the customer quicker and the customer would not have to wait while we try to navigate and search for different sites. The bookmarks would allow these sites to accessible together.

Thing 12

I've created my Rollyo. I don't know if there would be much use of this tool for me but I am sure other people would use it. There wouldn't be a site like this if no one had a use for it right? Anyway I finished thing 12 and have been moving along.

Thing 11

Being able to catalog your own books was fun. I am sure people who have a 'library' at home and love to be extremly organized would love to use this. I really liked the fact that you can click on amazon.com to help search for titles that you may want to add. Here is a link to my catalog with some of my favorite reads. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/butterflydiva
