Thing 23- the end
Well I 've made it to the end. Some exercises were difficult and required some time and thinking but others were very fun to work on. Such as- the avatar, discovering Youtube and Librarything. I found that some of the "things" will benefit the library when assisting customers. Some of the exercises and discoveries could have been worded or explained a little better for everyone to understand. I would love the opportunity to participate in another discovery program. I know have to some how keep up with the changing in the world especially when I have to young children who already the know the computer better then I did at their age and they are only 6. This was a great experience and I know a little more than I did before I started this program.
Thing 22
Ok so I checked out the Overdrive audio library that we offer customers and guess what, I think its a pretty neat feature. Those customers who may be homebound temporarly or permately and have no way of getting to the library or have no one to go for them, this would be a perfect solution. Or for customers who can't make it in because they have a ton of work to do at home but they want to read. This will be a good second for them. I did find a title I would be interested in listening too. Actually it trilogy. I found that we have 1 and 3 of the trilogy on cd here in the branch but the system does not own #2. This would allow me to listen to all three.

Thing 21
After some diffuculty placing the podcast RSS feed to my bloglines account, I have hopefully successfully placed a feed to my account. I choose Blawgcast feed that links to Bigstorytime.com. A six yr old boy reads childrens stories on the podcast. Very adorable. At this time I don't know how useful it would be to me but in the future who will know.

Thing 20
I've enjoyed exploring youtube. The animal videos are so funny. Hope you enjoy viewing as much as I have.
Thing 19
Now that I have explore the site, I have selected to write about Library Thing. I really enjoyed working on this site for Thing 12 so I just wanted to add that I think this is a wonderful site. This allows everyone to be a part of a book club and have many more people to discuss the books contents. This would be benefical to a library in the sense that we could create a book club using Library Thing and most likly have more participation, even people that use others libraries. You don't have to have a particular day or time when having book discussions.
Thing 18
Yeah. I complete thing 18 and was even successful in exporting it to my blog with some help from a very kind coworker.
I can see that using this application especially when needing to send it to several people who may have different software versions or file types would be benefical. It seems to be fun to use even if I am not sure what all the button icons at the top are for.

Thing 17
I've explored the discovery resources and it does seem simple enough for anyone to use. For a few of my favorites of couse my favorite down time thing to do is read. I enjoy anything that will make me laugh, or just hold my interest. I've just started to read some biographies and found that I've enjoyed them. Some of my favorite authors are Linda Lael Miller, Janet Evanovich, Nora Roberts and her mystery books under J.D. Robb. I just read a biography called Loss of Innocence written by a daughter and father. The story is of the daughter's addiction to Meth and the family's fight for her recovery.

Thing 16
After exploring the different resources I did not realize that there were so many different wikis. I only knew of Wikipedia (I've only used it once or twice but found the information pretty much true) so it interesting to see different uses for it. The only thing that I could see a concern for if someone posted something on a subject that maybe really only an opinion and not nearly as true as it should be. That could end up not being useful for another person if they are using that Wiki as a research tool. What I did find interesting for me was the Book Lovers Wiki. After reading the information I think its neat that they encourage people place give book reviews, rate the books and they could be entered into drawings to win prizes. I think this is a wonderful insentive to get people to read and share their thoughts.

Thing 15
I believe in some ways we are preparing for the future and the fact that our customers are more computer savy. We are given the oppurtunity to enhance our skills all the time and we as a system have implimented many programs for customers to have the many things to library has to offer while at home or in the office. One example is we know offer customers temporary library cards online so that the most the library website is accesible. This allows customers to get what they may need when they don't have immediate access to our library during opening hours or if we are closed and they need information immediatly. I like to think that we are doing our best to keep up with the furture.

Thing 14
OK, my brain is still on vacation (its taking me longer then usual to get back into the swing of things) even if I have returned to work. I am still navigating through the "Discover Technorati" thing but what I have found in placing "learning 2.0" in the search field is that many libraries are participating in the '23 Things'. You will find many blogs refering to 'thing 4' or 'week 5'. Its interesting how popular this has become. Though it does not suprise me after doing the discovery exercise #2 what are the favorite searches or popular blogs.

Thing 13
I've checkout Del.icio.us and find that it would be very useful to the library, especially the librarians on the Info Desk. The could bookmark sites that are popular and used frequently when assisting customer. This could make the encounter with the customer quicker and the customer would not have to wait while we try to navigate and search for different sites. The bookmarks would allow these sites to accessible together.

Thing 12
I've created my Rollyo. I don't know if there would be much use of this tool for me but I am sure other people would use it. There wouldn't be a site like this if no one had a use for it right? Anyway I finished thing 12 and have been moving along.

Thing 11
Being able to catalog your own books was fun. I am sure people who have a 'library' at home and love to be extremly organized would love to use this. I really liked the fact that you can click on amazon.com to help search for titles that you may want to add. Here is a link to my catalog with some of my favorite reads. http://www.librarything.com/catalog/butterflydiva

Week 4, Thing 9
I've checked out and subscribed to Merlin. I've also checked out the additional serch tools mentioned for Thing 9. I especially like the Topix.net. I just type in the area that I live in and was able to view the local news. This also allows me to check out other areas too.

Week 4, Thing 8
Well, I finally complete creating my blogline and adding all ten feeds. It seems interesting enough to see that there are bloglines created pretty much about everything.

Week 3, Thing 7
Technology is nice to have, sometimes to 'hi-tech' for me. I just can't see spending a large amount of money on items like the iphone or a new gaming system. I know how to navigate a computer or use my cell phone but sometimes I think people go overboard with these things. I know my children who are now 6 will be able to work the computer better than I can soon. Anyway on thing that I do find useful with technology is my cell phone. I can take pictures of a moment (especially if I forgot my camera) that I may want to keep. I then take the memory card and place it in my picture printer and print the pic. I can even email the pic to myself and save it to a disc or my computer so that I can send it to family and friends. I think that is a pretty cool feature on my phone.
Week 3, Thing 6- Flickr Mash-ups....
I checked out how to create trading cards and magazine covers and loads of fun. It was cool to chose your background and created headings for the Magazine cover. I decided to add the postcard the I created to this blog. You get so caught up in exploring the sight and playing with all the fun stuff time just away from you.

Week 3, Thing 5
I've explore Flickr and decided to created an account with them. This allowed me to upload a picture from my camera phone to my account. That was the easy part. Now when I tried to transfer the photo from my Flickr account to my blog that is where I was having trouble. After playing with if for some time I figured out and here is the picture. These are my two children- Jadyn and Mackenzie. It's always satisfying to see the end result.
Week 1, Thing 1
This program looks like it will be lots of fun and I am excited about learning something new. I am looking forward to giving this a try.

7 1/2 habits- Thing 2
I finally created my blog and it was fun. After listening to the 7 1/2 habits I feel what is going to be the hardest is having time. The easiest will be learning everything. I love a challenge and enjoy pushing myself to learn new things.
